I change this to the current resolution of the main monitor during OpenGL start up. if you want to play in your native monitor resolution you have to choose the following option "2048x1536".added some tweaks for widescreen support (show more content left and right instead of cutting content from top and bottom).Nothing else is mentioned, but the screenshots of Outcast do seem to show HD widescreen. This is the only thing I changed from the original code to improve the gaming experience. Academy on the other hand will contain both SP and MP.so thats great. input handling in window mode is not perfect.some font rendering issues with the Intel Mesa driver (on my test machine).multi-monitor handling is still experimental.Sudo apt-get install libxxf86dga1:i386 Known Issues: Optional libraries on Ubuntu 12.10 64bit (different mouse access): The following files are needed and included in JediOutcast_Linux_Binary_v1.0.0.zip:Įxtract the binary zip file in the installation directory of Jedi Outcast.īe sure to mark "jk2sp" as executable and start the game with it.įor those not having the Steam version: you'll need the 1.04 update from here Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast (Single Player Linux Port) Take the package from the newest release instead. Updated: This binary package was not working. Enabled first person lightsaber mode as default.Auto detection of the Rift display position.Improved game controller support (SDL2 Xbox Controller layout).Removed all forced camera rotations and a lot of camera movements.Changes and new Features for the Oculus Rift: It is possible to switch to 3rd-person view, but the best (and motion sickness free) experience is in first person mode. This Oculus Rift implementation is designed for first person game play. Extract the binary zip file in the GameData subfolder of your Jedi Outcast installation directory:.I'm not sure how much work it would be and if it is even possible. I was able to reuse a lot of code I wrote for the VR support of Jedi Academy.Ĭurrently there is NO Touch Controller support. This is my first Virtual Reality release of Jedi Outcast. I have never been a huge fan of FPS games on a console controller, but the Switch has numerous games (such as Youngblood, Red Faction Guerilla, Wolfenstein II, Doom, etc.) that show it is possible to make it more than just workable.Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast VR (Oculus Rift on Windows) The visuals wouldn’t bug me too much – I am constantly playing old games so am very forgiving – but the controls are pretty terrible. Nor does it feature the crispest and highest resolution visuals based on comparing the game between the Switch and my Mac. The original game wasn’t made for widescreen monitors, but simple settings tweaks enable it for anyone playing now – but the Switch version doesn’t allow that mode. I have two major issues with the Nintendo Switch port of Jedi Knight II: graphics and controls. Yes, there are ways it is showing its 17+ years since release, but there is so much to it that holds up incredibly well – certainly better than a prettier but much dumber new game like Wolfenstein Youngblood! I continue to play Jedi Knight II on the Mac or PC at least once per year, and played my PC copy over the summer and had an absolute blast. I am not going to dig too far into the specifics of the game, as I did an in-depth retro-review for the Netbook Gamer series nearly a decade ago!. Guess which one the Switch port most closely resembles? Several months later it saw an excellent Mac OS X port, a fairly solid XBOX port, and a choppy, wonky and lower-resolution GameCube port.
